Having the ability to broadcast it all over the house thru my Sonos system is a nice perk. I have several crates of vinyl from my younger years that I would enjoy pulling back out again. Right now I'm leaning towards the Pro-ject Carbon. I assume Pro-ject uses something similar to the standalone 200 USD preamp they make so the 800 USD price on Sonos edition of the turntable seems reasonable considering the version withou the preamp is 550 USD. So either way, a built in phono preamp is good. I can also connect right to my Onkyo receiver but like most AVR's from the last 20 years it lacks a phono input for boosting the signal. I have a Sonos Port I'll be hooking into thats connected to a nice audio system in my living room. I actually have an old 1990 Denon direct drive turntable but it needs a new cartridge and an external photo pre amp so I thought I'd just go ahead and get a nicer belt drive turntable with the cartridge and phono preamp built in. What did you end up getting and are you happy with it? If you’ve ever taken more than a passing interest in turntables, you’ll have heard of Rega and Pro-Ject. I'm in the same predicament and Im deciding between the P1 Plus and the Pro-ject Carbon Sonos edition. Ultimately, the audio performance and build quality at this rough price point is what matters the most to me. I like the Pro-ject one better in terms of aesthetics due to the acrylic platter, but I also wanted to know, from experienced members, if this was a worthy upgrade compared to the RP1+ considering it is around 120 USD/ 100 EUR more expensive. I can get this one for ~670 USD / 570 EUR. However, I also got to like the Project Debut Carbon Sonos Edition, which is basically a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC Esprit SB with a built-in Phono Amp. That I can get for about 550 USD / 470 EUR. And that I'm not looking for something very high-end either.Īfter a lot of reading reviews, I settled on buying a Rega Planar 1 Plus. It was suggested that the two TT I had a chance to listen to were from a 'bad batch', I certainly hope so. I found this forum post in a Google search for ProJect vs Rega. That means that I'm looking for a turntable that ideally has a phono preamp built-in, to simplify the setup. A different shop has both the ProJect Debut Carbon and the Rega RP1 for the same price, 480 Can. It includes a Sonos Five, which has line-in. I own a Sonos setup (I don't know if this is a huge no-no, but it's what I have nowadays and I'm very happy with it). I've never had a turntable before, but I went out of the way to get a couple of LPs and now I need to find something nice to play them with :). I assume that there's no shortage of comparisons between different turntables, and I'm just adding to the pile, but I wasn't able to find any good comparison between these 2 models that I've grown to be interested in.
